Karl Fischer reagent is a solution composed mainly of iodine, sulfur dioxide, pyridine, and methanol. The sulfur dioxide and pyridine are highly volatile and very harmful to the human body, so operations should be carried out with good ventilation. When changing the reagent in particular, ensure adequate exhaust to prevent inhaling harmful gases. Wear protective goggles and latex gloves to keep the reagent from splashing into eyes or onto skin; if it does, rinse immediately with running water and seek medical attention for serious exposure.
