Three Measurement Methods of Moisture Analyzers

Moisture analyzers use many detection methods to determine material moisture; three are commonly used. Today we review their main characteristics.

I. Drying Method  Mainly for solid samples: heating drives off moisture. It suits most solids if the analyzer meets three conditions:

1. The moisture is volatile;

2. The sample contains no bound water;

3. Heat-induced chemical changes in other components are negligible. Advantage: simple operation; drawbacks: lower accuracy and unsuitability for liquids, gases, and volatile-containing samples;

II. Distillation Method  The sample and a water-immiscible solvent are heated so the water separates out—simple and affordable, but water and solvent may emulsify, moisture may not fully volatilize, and condenser-wall water causes reading errors;

III. Dew Point Method  Easy to operate and common for trace moisture in permanent gases, though readily condensing gases may dew over first and interfere at high concentrations.
