An Introduction to Capacitive Moisture Analyzers

2022-10-28

The capacitive (cup-type) moisture analyzer works on C=Q/U: rotate the sample for uniformity and read moisture from capacitance. Range is typically 14%-22%; different samples must be calibrated one by one against a drying oven.

Advantages: simple, fast, no grinding of grain, one-decimal display.

Disadvantages: sensitive to temperature and uniformity—at 0°C readings are near zero, grain above 22% gives large errors, and repeatability requires >10°C.

80% of these analyzers serve grain purchasing. Unlike pin-type meters, whose results depend on insertion force, they simply pour the sample in for a reading.
