What Is a RoHS Report

RoHS is a mandatory standard established by EU legislation, officially titled the Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (Restriction of Hazardous Substances). The standard has been officially implemented since July 1, 2006, mainly to regulate the material and process standards of electrical and electronic products, making them more conducive to human health and environmental protection. The purpose of the standard is to eliminate six substances in electrical and electronic products: lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls, and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (note: the correct Chinese name of PBDE is polybrominated diphenyl ether; polybrominated biphenyl ether is an incorrect term), with a key provision that the lead content must not exceed 0.1%.

RoHS is an environmental testing report. The RoHS directive lists a total of six hazardous substances prohibited in electrical and electronic equipment, including: lead Pb (1000 PPM limit), cadmium Cd (100 PPM), mercury Hg (1000 PPM limit), hexavalent chromium Cr6+ (1000 PPM limit), polybrominated diphenyl ethers PBDE (1000 PPM limit), and polybrominated biphenyls (1000 PPM limit).

REACH (SVHC report) concerns EU Substances of Very High Concern. Currently, 151 SVHC hazardous substances are tested, and the content of each SVHC must not exceed 0.1%; if exceeded, notification to the EU is required. The purposes of REACH are to protect human health and the environment; maintain and enhance the competitiveness of the EU chemical industry; increase the transparency of chemical information; reduce vertebrate animal testing; and align with the EU's international obligations under the WTO framework.

In a substantive sense, the REACH regulation will promote innovation in the chemical industry, enabling it to produce safer products and stimulating competition and growth. Unlike the current complex regulatory system, REACH will create a unified chemical management system across the EU, enabling enterprises to produce new chemicals and their products following the same principles.
