Loss-on-drying is the conventional method of moisture testing, and among loss-on-drying moisture analyzers the halogen moisture analyzer is today's mainstream instrument. Compared with far-infrared moisture analyzers, it heats more evenly for more accurate data; compared with oven measurements, it greatly shortens testing time. Any product whose moisture is measured by loss-on-drying can be tested with a halogen moisture analyzer.
Halogen moisture analyzers are widely used for moisture monitoring across industries and in university research—pharmaceuticals, plastics, chemicals, food, surimi, dehydrated vegetables, polymer materials, carbon fiber, noodles, flour, biscuits, mooncakes, grain, feed, seeds, solids content, rapeseed, tobacco, tea, textiles, agriculture and forestry, papermaking, rubber, powders, and more.

The basic light-emitting principle of the halogen lamp in a halogen moisture analyzer is the same as that of an incandescent lamp: sufficient current passes through the tungsten filament to heat it to incandescence. The difference is that the halogen lamp's glass envelope is filled with halogen gas—usually iodine or bromine—which slows the loss of the tungsten filament at high temperature, extending filament life while allowing it to operate at higher temperatures for greater brightness, color temperature, and luminous efficiency.
