Taishan District Makes Surprise Inspections of Supermarkets and Meat Stores! These Problems Found

2021-08-17

At 6:00 on the 26th, a refrigerated truck carrying raw meat from Feicheng to Taicheng arrived on time at the "Yinbao Supermarket" on Jinshan Road. Law enforcement officers of the Taishan District Market Supervision Administration immediately inspected the raw meat products in the truck before unloading and took samples for moisture testing. To effectively safeguard the quality and safety of meat products sold in the market and protect consumers' legitimate rights and interests, the Taishan District Market Supervision Administration conducted surprise inspections of supermarkets and meat product direct-sale stores in its jurisdiction in the early morning of the 26th.

At the Tai'an Jinshan store of Feicheng Tianfeng Trading Co., Ltd., law enforcement officers checked the tenderloin, pork ribs and other products about to be sold one by one in front of the meat counter. "Citizens all know this store has a large meat turnover in the district; today we focus on a full-chain inspection from the transport vehicle to the cold storage," the officers said. It is understood that this surprise inspection will examine the sale and storage, warehousing conditions, certificate and invoice verification, and appearance labeling of key categories such as meat and meat products, aquatic products, and on-site processed grain products.

"This bag of pork ribs has no production date label. In accordance with regulations, we will now prohibit it from being shelved; please cooperate with the sealing," law enforcement officers found during the inspection. According to reports, meat products must bear information such as the production date when leaving the factory, which is an important guarantee of food safety. "On-site rapid testing showed no quality problems with this batch; the missing production date may have resulted from repackaging after arrival at the store. We have once again stressed to the supermarket manager the importance of keeping invoices and certificates," the officers told reporters, adding that the bag of food still cannot be sold until in-depth testing is completed.

The officers in this dawn operation came from the competent departments, law enforcement brigades and regulatory offices, and inspected the Wuma New Era Supermarket, the Yonghui Supermarket at Wuyue Plaza, and the Tai'an Jinshan store of Feicheng Tianfeng Trading Co., Ltd. Officers took samples of some foods on site for testing and used moisture analyzers to test the moisture content of meat products from brands such as Jinluo, Longda, Huabao and Yinbao, using fast, convenient and scientific means to preliminarily screen for water-injected meat; no excessive moisture was found on site.

The surprise operation was fully completed on the morning of the 26th. Problems found on site included frozen products not stored under required conditions, incomplete certificate and invoice verification for meat products, unclear signage in warehousing and return areas, and stored flour not kept off the floor and away from walls. On site, law enforcement officers made records, required the supermarkets to rectify immediately, and issued rectification orders with deadlines for items that could be corrected on the spot, followed by re-inspection. At the same time, officers urged operators to properly conduct market-entry inspections and carry out regular self-inspections to ensure food safety traceability. Next, the Taishan District Market Supervision Administration will conduct surprise inspections of other specialty stores and large and medium-sized supermarkets, resolutely safeguarding citizens' "safety on the tip of the tongue" and creating a trustworthy food consumption environment.
