WKT-C1 Automatic Karl Fischer Moisture Titrator

The WKT-C1 "Smart" Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is a fully automatic moisture analysis system jointly developed by VicoMeter's R&D department and the 53rd Research Institute of China North Industries Group. Using the volumetric principle, it measures moisture down to 10 ppm and determines solids, liquids, and powders within 30 seconds. Its RS232 port connects printers, balances, computers, and other peripherals; it stores 100 data sets; and its separate 7-inch capacitive touchscreen runs an embedded micro Windows system — powerful, with clear operation prompts and flexible user interaction. In 2010, with help on ultra-precision displacement measurement from the State Key Laboratory of Precision Measurement Technology and Instruments at Tsinghua University, the WKT-C1 titration system was further improved, raising its measurement accuracy once again. The WKT-C1 complies with multiple national and international moisture standards and with pharmacopoeia requirements and is widely used in chemicals, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, power, food, batteries, plastics, research, and testing.

VicoMeter at the Customer Site

The VicoMeter technical engineer installed the instrument on July 6. The customer had prepared HPLC-grade methanol and ordinary deionized water. Upon arrival, the engineer opened the fume hood and set the air conditioning to 26°. Since the customer had no empty methanol bottle, the engineer used a beaker as the waste bottle and began installation, which went smoothly. The high-purity methanol greatly facilitated the installation.

After installation, the engineer standardized five times with 10 µL of deionized water; the results were very stable and the Karl Fischer reagent titer was good. Since the customer had no samples, the engineer tested directly with pure water, with stable, repeatable results. Because the customer had a solid chemistry lab background and was familiar with VicoMeter instruments, the engineer completed all work in less than half a day.

Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers

A Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is an instrument designed on the Karl Fischer method to measure moisture content in materials. It is also known as a Karl Fischer moisture meter, fully automatic Karl Fischer moisture titrator, intelligent Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer, or Fischer-method moisture meter, and comes in two types: coulometric and volumetric (titrimetric).

Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test? Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test?

As a classic moisture determination method, Karl Fischer titration is suitable for measuring water in a wide range of organic and inorganic substances. Because compounds vary in their properties, they fall into two categories: those that can be analyzed directly and those that cannot.

What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration? What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration?

The biggest difference between the volumetric and coulometric methods is that I2differ in their source: in the volumetric method, I2comes from the titrant reagent, while in the coulometric method, I2is produced by electrolyzing an electrolyte containing I-is generated by electrolysis of the electrolyte.
