WKT-V2 Karl Fischer Oven Moisture Measurement System

When measuring moisture with a Karl Fischer analyzer, most samples can be added directly to the generator cell/titration cell for simple, accurate testing. Some samples, however, cannot be added directly because their moisture is not released naturally or they undergo side reactions with the Karl Fischer reagent — for example powders, granules, pastes, and oxidizing inorganic salts.

For samples that cannot be added directly to the cell, pairing the WKT-V2 Karl Fischer oven for gas-phase extraction is the perfect solution. The sample is placed in a vial and moved onto the oven, heated to a specific temperature (up to 300˚C), and the moisture is extracted and carried into the cell by dry air or nitrogen, then measured perfectly.

VicoMeter at the Customer Site

On arrival, the VicoMeter engineer first checked the instrument for transport damage and verified that all accessories were present, then began installation and commissioning.

The engineer first installed the WKT-V1 Karl Fischer oven — and immediately found a problem: the nitrogen pressure regulator supplied for the customer was for large cylinders, but the customer used 8 L small cylinders, so the supplied regulator was completely unusable. Since all regulators had been procured in one model, the company had no alternative on hand, and the installation stalled. The engineer then noticed an unused nitrogen regulator on the customer's gas chromatograph; with the customer's consent, it was borrowed for the installation.

With the regulator problem solved, the rest of the installation went smoothly. The customer had also spent a day training at VicoMeter before purchasing, so basic operation and maintenance posed no difficulty, and the engineer finished installation, commissioning, and guidance in a very short time. All kinds of issues come up during installations; VicoMeter keeps summarizing the experience to do even better in future installation and commissioning work.
