Customer Profile

Lingyun Automotive Hose Co., Ltd. purchased the VicoMeter WKT-A9 precision Karl Fischer moisture analyzer. The VicoMeter WKT-A9 precision Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer uses the coulometric Karl Fischer principle to quickly determine trace moisture in samples, measuring water content as low as 0.001 ppm. Guided navigation prompts and a built-in electronic manual make operation simple. The WKT-A9 complies with multiple national and international moisture determination standards, meets the moisture measurement needs of various industries, and is widely used in chemicals, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, electric power, food, research, testing and other industries—a Karl Fischer moisture analyzer for mid-to-high-end applications.

VicoMeter at the Customer Site

Lingyun Automotive Hose Co., Ltd. purchased the VicoMeter WKT-A9 Precision Karl Fischer moisture analyzer mainly to test the moisture content of their lubricating oil. After arriving at the customer's site, the VicoMeter technical engineer first unpacked and checked the instrument and its accessories with the customer, and then began the installation.

Installation was completed quickly. Afterwards, the VicoMeter technical engineer verified the instrument with 0.1 uL, 0.2 uL, 0.5 uL and 2 uL of deionized water; all results were within the permitted range. The customer then brought samples for the engineer to test: one previously taken and stored in a sealed glass bottle, and one freshly taken in a plastic bottle on site.

After receiving the samples, the VicoMeter technical engineer shook them thoroughly to homogenize, rinsed the syringe three times, then drew samples for testing. The sample from the sealed glass bottle was tested three times, with moisture around 150 ppm each time. The freshly collected sample in the plastic bottle also gave consistent results, but the values were around 1200 ppm—clearly much higher. The engineer then went to the customer's site, took a new sample personally in a new sealed glass bottle and ran two more tests; this time the results were around 130 ppm, clearly much better than the customer's earlier samples.

The VicoMeter technical engineer analyzed the results; the main reasons were:

1. The customer did not use dedicated sampling bottles

2. The customer did not rinse the bottle with the sample before sampling

3. The bottle was not filled completely, and the sample absorbed moisture from the air.

Together, these reasons explain why the customer's samples showed significantly higher moisture than the engineer's; sampling practice also has a considerable influence on the results.

Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers

A Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is an instrument designed on the Karl Fischer method to measure moisture content in materials. It is also known as a Karl Fischer moisture meter, fully automatic Karl Fischer moisture titrator, intelligent Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer, or Fischer-method moisture meter, and comes in two types: coulometric and volumetric (titrimetric).

Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test? Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test?

As a classic moisture determination method, Karl Fischer titration is suitable for measuring water in a wide range of organic and inorganic substances. Because compounds vary in their properties, they fall into two categories: those that can be analyzed directly and those that cannot.

What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration? What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration?

The biggest difference between the volumetric and coulometric methods is that I2differ in their source: in the volumetric method, I2comes from the titrant reagent, while in the coulometric method, I2is produced by electrolyzing an electrolyte containing I-is generated by electrolysis of the electrolyte.
