Customer Profile

Nantong Shankou Precision Electromechanical purchased the VicoMeter WKT-A9 Precision Karl Fischer moisture analyzer. The VicoMeter WKT-A9 Precision Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer uses the coulometric Karl Fischer (coulometry) principle to rapidly measure trace moisture in samples, detecting water down to 0.001 ppm and determining trace moisture in solids, liquids, and powders within one minute. The built-in printer and storage for 500 data sets allow real-time query and printout. Innovative guided prompts and a built-in e-manual make operation simple. The WKT-A9 complies with multiple national and international moisture standards and provides eight built-in moisture calculation formulas and six determination methods to meet the moisture testing needs of every industry. Widely used in chemicals, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, power, food, research, and testing, it is a Karl Fischer moisture analyzer built for mid-to-high-end applications.

VicoMeter at the Customer Site

When the VicoMeter service engineer arrived on site, the ambient humidity was very high — as much as 78%. Following the engineer's advice, the customer closed the doors and windows and switched on the air-conditioning dehumidifier; after about an hour the laboratory humidity dropped to 55%, meeting the instrument's installation requirements.

After installation, the engineer began testing the customer's samples — an additive used in cleaning agents with low moisture content, no aldehydes or ketones, and neutral pH. A standard pyridine-free coulometric Karl Fischer reagent was therefore selected. Because the sample's water content was low, a 2 mL syringe was used, since a larger sample volume is needed to guarantee accurate data. A 1.9856 g sample gave 102 ppm and a 2.0152 g sample gave 108 ppm — stable, repeatable results that fully satisfied the customer.

When dealing with samples containing very little water, appropriately increasing the sample size makes the results more stable and the data more reliable.

Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers

A Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is an instrument designed on the Karl Fischer method to measure moisture content in materials. It is also known as a Karl Fischer moisture meter, fully automatic Karl Fischer moisture titrator, intelligent Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer, or Fischer-method moisture meter, and comes in two types: coulometric and volumetric (titrimetric).

What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration? What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration?

The biggest difference between the volumetric and coulometric methods is that I2differ in their source: in the volumetric method, I2comes from the titrant reagent, while in the coulometric method, I2is produced by electrolyzing an electrolyte containing I-is generated by electrolysis of the electrolyte.

Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test? Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test?

As a classic moisture determination method, Karl Fischer titration is suitable for measuring water in a wide range of organic and inorganic substances. Because compounds vary in their properties, they fall into two categories: those that can be analyzed directly and those that cannot.

What Calibration Standards and Verification Methods Are Available for Karl Fischer Moisture Determination? What Calibration Standards and Verification Methods Are Available for Karl Fischer Moisture Determination?

VicoMeter Karl Fischer moisture analyzers are typically calibrated and verified using standards such as methanol-water standard solutions, water-containing sodium tartrate, distilled (deionized or pure) water, and water-saturated toluene. This article introduces the calibration substances, calibration methods, and accuracy verification procedures commonly used with VicoMeter coulometric and volumetric Karl Fischer moisture analyzers.

How to Ensure Moisture Reacts Fully with Karl Fischer Reagent How to Ensure Moisture Reacts Fully with Karl Fischer Reagent

As a professional instrument for moisture determination, the Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is widely used across industries. Ensuring that moisture reacts fully with the Karl Fischer reagent is the key to accurate moisture measurement in samples. How can this be achieved? That is the question this article answers. As an expert in the moisture field, VicoMeter walks you through it.
