Shandong Smart Pipeline Co., Ltd. purchased the VicoMeter WKT-A9 Karl Fischer moisture analyzer with the matching WKT-V2 Karl Fischer oven. The WKT-A9 is a coulometric Karl Fischer titrator of our own proprietary design. The WKT-V2 is the fourth-generation Karl Fischer oven from Jiangsu Victor Instrument Meter Co., Ltd., with a more user-friendly, streamlined touch OS. Paired with our dedicated moisture analyzer, the VicoMeter 'volcano' series WKT-V2 suits moisture determination of insoluble samples (battery materials, plastics and rubber, lubricants and greases, pharmaceutical materials, new materials, moisture-absorbing and volatile-component samples) and is widely successful in plastics, battery, new materials, medical, and electronics industries!

When measuring moisture with a Karl Fischer analyzer, most samples can be added directly to the generator cell/titration cell for simple, accurate testing. Some samples, however, cannot be added directly because their moisture is not released naturally or they undergo side reactions with the Karl Fischer reagent — for example powders, granules, pastes, and oxidizing inorganic salts.

For samples that cannot be added directly to the cell, pairing the WKT-V2 Karl Fischer oven for gas-phase extraction is the perfect solution. The sample is placed in a vial and moved onto the oven, heated to a specific temperature (up to 300˚C), and the moisture is extracted and carried into the cell by dry air or nitrogen, then measured perfectly.

VicoMeter at the Customer Site

When the VicoMeter technical engineer arrived at the customer's site, he first checked the nitrogen gas the customer had purchased for use with the instrument. The customer was required to purchase 99.999% high-purity nitrogen, but the VicoMeter technical engineer found that the customer had purchased 99.99% high-purity nitrogen, which could not work well with the instrument. The VicoMeter technical engineer raised this issue with the customer, who cooperatively replaced it with 99.999% high-purity nitrogen.

Installation went smoothly, but performance verification failed: 2 µl pure-water tests always ran high with no pattern. While debugging, the customer's operator noticed liquid dripping from the drying tube — unprecedented for us. Our chief engineer suspected substandard nitrogen purity; despite the customer's self-inspection report, we shipped a 70P dew point meter to the site. The test confirmed serious problems: national requirements cap 99.999% nitrogen moisture at 3 PPM, but the customer's exceeded 100 PPM. The engineer accompanied the customer to select a better cylinder at the supplier, resolving the issue.

The Karl Fischer moisture meter is a trace moisture tester with strict requirements for the environment and gas source; only when these are well controlled can accurate results be obtained.

The latter (the restructured former Jilin Songjiang Electrical Appliances Factory) was the earliest enterprise in China engaged in plastic pipeline fusion technology research and product development.
