East China University of Science and Technology
East China University of Science and Technology purchased the VicoMeter WKT-C30 fully automatic Karl Fischer moisture analyzer for its School of Chemical Engineering.
The WKT-C30 "fully automatic" Karl Fischer moisture analyzer uses the volumetric Karl Fischer principle to rapidly determine moisture down to 10 ppm, measuring solids, liquids, and powders within 30 seconds. Its RS232 port connects to printers, balances, computers, and other peripherals, and it stores 200 data sets with real-time query. A further upgrade of the Victor smart-series moisture analyzer, the C30 delivers a higher level of automation and precision. It complies with multiple national and international moisture standards as well as pharmacopoeia requirements and is widely used in chemicals, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, power, food, batteries, plastics, research, and testing.
After arriving on site, the VicoMeter technical engineer first chose the installation location with the customer. The customer originally wanted it on the first floor, but the chosen spot was right next to a sink. Since the instrument measures moisture, installing it beside a sink—where turning the water on and off affects air humidity—would inevitably affect test results.
After the engineer explained this, the customer understood and installed the instrument in a room on the 4th floor near the balance. After installation, the engineer tested the customer's samples and found them too viscous to sample easily and unable to dissolve completely in the reagent. The engineer first heated the sample to reduce viscosity, then added a solubilizer to the reagent so the sample dissolved, completing the test. Because the sample required pre-treatment, the customer worried about accuracy. The engineer took some samples back to the company and re-tested them with the WKT-A9 Karl Fischer moisture analyzer paired with the WKT-V2 Karl Fischer oven (the customer had not purchased an oven); results matched the on-site tests, and the customer approved the instrument's accuracy.
East China University of Science and Technology, formerly East China Institute of Chemical Technology, was founded in 1952 through the merger of the chemical engineering departments of Jiaotong University (Shanghai), Aurora University (Shanghai), Datong University (Shanghai), Soochow University (Suzhou) and Jiangnan University (Wuxi)—the first higher-education institution in New China renowned for chemical engineering. In 1956 it was among the first to admit graduate students; from 1960 it was designated a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education; in 1993 it was renamed East China University of Science and Technology; in 1996 it entered the national "211 Project"; in 2000 it established a graduate school; in 2008 it was approved to build a "985 Advantageous Discipline Innovation Platform"; and in 2017 it was selected as a national "Double First-Class" discipline university, with chemistry, materials science and engineering, and chemical engineering and technology on the first-class discipline list.
