Customer Profile

Hebei Huami New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. purchased one VicoMeter WKT-C20Pro Karl Fischer moisture analyzer and one WKT-VST300 HDT/Vicat softening point tester. Having bought a WKT-C9 volumetric Karl Fischer moisture analyzer in 2018, it planned to use the new units separately in its new workshop laboratory. Since its samples were unsuitable for the WKT-C20Pro, we recommended the WKT-A9 Karl Fischer moisture analyzer with the matching WKT-V2 Karl Fischer oven.

WKT-V2 Karl Fischer Oven Moisture Measurement System

When measuring moisture with a Karl Fischer analyzer, most samples can be added directly to the generator cell/titration cell for simple, accurate testing. Some samples, however, cannot be added directly because their moisture is not released naturally or they undergo side reactions with the Karl Fischer reagent — for example powders, granules, pastes, and oxidizing inorganic salts.

For samples that cannot be added directly to the cell, pairing the WKT-V2 Karl Fischer oven for gas-phase extraction is the perfect solution. The sample is placed in a vial and moved onto the oven, heated to a specific temperature (up to 300˚C), and the moisture is extracted and carried into the cell by dry air or nitrogen, then measured perfectly.

VicoMeter at the Customer Site

After commissioning and training on the WKT-C20Pro, the technician's verification test showed moisture of 103.2% and the operator's test 100.3%. However, since the customer's samples were high-temperature-resistant plastic pellets, the WKT-C20Pro was unsuitable. After discussion, the customer exchanged the unit for an A9+V2 combination.

The HDT/Vicat tester heats and cools rather slowly, and the customer refined their operation during use. With 80*10*4.1 mm bars, normal deflection and Vicat readings were achieved at an oil temperature of 240°C. With the new workshop in low-volume production and limited staffing, only 2-3 product types have been tested, and the customer approves the data.

As the new laboratory bench and ventilation system were not ready, the customer planned to rearrange the equipment and install ventilation after the New Year. During shipment of the WKT-A9 and WKT-V2 Karl Fischer oven, the customer purchased a compliant nitrogen cylinder and pressure-regulating valve. The equipment was installed and commissioned successfully upon arrival.

Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers

A Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is an instrument designed on the Karl Fischer method to measure moisture content in materials. It is also known as a Karl Fischer moisture meter, fully automatic Karl Fischer moisture titrator, intelligent Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer, or Fischer-method moisture meter, and comes in two types: coulometric and volumetric (titrimetric).

What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration? What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration?

The biggest difference between the volumetric and coulometric methods is that I2differ in their source: in the volumetric method, I2comes from the titrant reagent, while in the coulometric method, I2is produced by electrolyzing an electrolyte containing I-is generated by electrolysis of the electrolyte.

Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test? Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test?

As a classic moisture determination method, Karl Fischer titration is suitable for measuring water in a wide range of organic and inorganic substances. Because compounds vary in their properties, they fall into two categories: those that can be analyzed directly and those that cannot.

What Calibration Standards and Verification Methods Are Available for Karl Fischer Moisture Determination? What Calibration Standards and Verification Methods Are Available for Karl Fischer Moisture Determination?

VicoMeter Karl Fischer moisture analyzers are typically calibrated and verified using standards such as methanol-water standard solutions, water-containing sodium tartrate, distilled (deionized or pure) water, and water-saturated toluene. This article introduces the calibration substances, calibration methods, and accuracy verification procedures commonly used with VicoMeter coulometric and volumetric Karl Fischer moisture analyzers.

How to Ensure Moisture Reacts Fully with Karl Fischer Reagent How to Ensure Moisture Reacts Fully with Karl Fischer Reagent

As a professional instrument for moisture determination, the Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is widely used across industries. Ensuring that moisture reacts fully with the Karl Fischer reagent is the key to accurate moisture measurement in samples. How can this be achieved? That is the question this article answers. As an expert in the moisture field, VicoMeter walks you through it.

HDT & Vicat Softening Point Tester HDT & Vicat Softening Point Tester

The HDT/Vicat softening point temperature tester, referred to as HDT/Vicat, is also called a heat deflection temperature tester, Vicat softening point temperature tester, HDT/Vicat tester, or softening point tester. It is mainly used to measure heat deflection and Vicat softening point of non-metallic materials (such as plastics, rubber, nylon, and electrical insulating materials). It is an ideal testing tool for chemical enterprises, scientific research organizations, colleges, and universities.
