Customer Purchase Details (instrument upgraded to the new A8)

The instrument commissioned for the customer this time was the WKT-A8 fully automatic trace moisture analyzer [automatic reagent exchange]. The WKT-A8 'fully automatic' Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer uses the coulometric Karl Fischer principle to quickly determine trace moisture in samples, measuring water content as low as 1 ppm (0.0001%) and determining trace moisture in solids, liquids and powders within 1 minute. It has a built-in printer and can store 600 data sets for real-time query and printing! The biggest feature of the WKT-A8 fully automatic Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer is automatic reagent addition and automatic waste discharge, which prevents operators from direct contact with the reaction reagents and avoids the effects of volatile reagent components on personnel. The instrument complies with multiple national and international moisture determination standards, with four built-in moisture calculation formulas to meet the moisture determination needs of various industries, and is widely used in chemicals, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, electric power, food, research, testing and other industries.

VicoMeter at the Customer Site

The customer did not request on-site service after purchase and used the instrument themselves, but unfamiliar operation led to large errors. This time, the VicoMeter technical engineer went to demonstrate the proper operating procedure to the customer. On arrival, the engineer first asked the customer to perform the operation once while observing for any non-standard practices.

The customer's installation was fairly standard, with vacuum grease applied evenly, but the engineer found problems during sample injection: the customer was using a balance with 0.01 g readability, without a draft shield—the readings kept fluctuating whenever the air conditioning blew. The VicoMeter WKT-A8 is a highly precise trace moisture analyzer with demanding sampling requirements; the engineer recommended a balance with at least 0.0001 g readability. When injecting the oil sample, the engineer noticed white particles entering the titration cell through the syringe, after which the sample's moisture value was markedly higher. The engineer checked the customer's PTFE injection septum and found it had been punctured through—the white particles were fragments of the PTFE septum. While replacing the septum, the engineer also noticed obvious water stains on it and wiped them off for the customer. Two further tests were then performed; the two results showed minimal error, met the customer's requirements, and the customer was very satisfied.

The Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is a trace moisture instrument with strict requirements on the user's operation and the environment; precise data can only be obtained by installing and operating the instrument strictly according to the manual.

Sinopec

China Petrochemical Corporation (SINOPEC GROUP) is a petroleum and petrochemical enterprise group founded on September 14, 1983 and headquartered in Beijing. Through continuous exploration and practice, the East China branch has gradually developed a series of exploration and development methods for complex ultra-small fault-block oilfields and low-porosity, low-permeability, low-abundance lithological-structural composite oil and gas fields. It has widely adopted technologies such as 3D seismic exploration, directional wells, cluster wells, horizontal wells, small-diameter window sidetracking, sidetracked horizontal wells, detailed reservoir description, remaining oil studies, reservoir protection, hydraulic sand fracturing, zonal water injection, deep profile control and displacement, CO2 huff-and-puff and WPS tertiary oil recovery, effectively boosting exploration and development, improving reserve utilization and recovery, and controlling the natural and comprehensive decline rates of mature oilfields. Its small oilfields in northern Jiangsu have been produced for decades yet remain in good, stable and increasing production. Since the 1990s, the East China branch has actively explored new oil and gas areas in the southern Songliao Basin; after nearly 10 years of unremitting efforts, it achieved an oil and gas breakthrough at Yaoyingtai in the southern Songliao area in 2003, made major breakthroughs in the Yaoyingtai depression and faulted-depression layers in 2005, and discovered a 100-million-ton-class large oil and gas field.

Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzers

A Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is an instrument designed on the Karl Fischer method to measure moisture content in materials. It is also known as a Karl Fischer moisture meter, fully automatic Karl Fischer moisture titrator, intelligent Karl Fischer trace moisture analyzer, or Fischer-method moisture meter, and comes in two types: coulometric and volumetric (titrimetric).

What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration? What Is the Difference Between Coulometric and Volumetric Karl Fischer Titration?

The biggest difference between the volumetric and coulometric methods is that I2differ in their source: in the volumetric method, I2comes from the titrant reagent, while in the coulometric method, I2is produced by electrolyzing an electrolyte containing I-is generated by electrolysis of the electrolyte.

Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test? Which Samples Can a Karl Fischer Moisture Analyzer Test?

As a classic moisture determination method, Karl Fischer titration is suitable for measuring water in a wide range of organic and inorganic substances. Because compounds vary in their properties, they fall into two categories: those that can be analyzed directly and those that cannot.

What Calibration Standards and Verification Methods Are Available for Karl Fischer Moisture Determination? What Calibration Standards and Verification Methods Are Available for Karl Fischer Moisture Determination?

VicoMeter Karl Fischer moisture analyzers are typically calibrated and verified using standards such as methanol-water standard solutions, water-containing sodium tartrate, distilled (deionized or pure) water, and water-saturated toluene. This article introduces the calibration substances, calibration methods, and accuracy verification procedures commonly used with VicoMeter coulometric and volumetric Karl Fischer moisture analyzers.

How to Ensure Moisture Reacts Fully with Karl Fischer Reagent How to Ensure Moisture Reacts Fully with Karl Fischer Reagent

As a professional instrument for moisture determination, the Karl Fischer moisture analyzer is widely used across industries. Ensuring that moisture reacts fully with the Karl Fischer reagent is the key to accurate moisture measurement in samples. How can this be achieved? That is the question this article answers. As an expert in the moisture field, VicoMeter walks you through it.
