Kemin (China) Technology Co., Ltd.
The customer purchased the VicoMeter WKT-C9-V1 fully automatic Karl Fischer moisture analyzer. Working on the volumetric Karl Fischer principle, the WKT-C9 fully automatic analyzer rapidly determines moisture down to 10 ppm and measures solids, liquids, and powders within 30 seconds. Its built-in RS232 port connects printers, balances, computers, and other peripherals, and it stores 30 data sets for real-time query. The V1 is a companion device that lets the C9 test insoluble samples.
The VicoMeter WKT-C9 fully automatic Karl Fischer moisture analyzer uses the volumetric Karl Fischer principle to rapidly determine moisture down to 10 ppm, measuring solids, liquids, and powders within 30 seconds. Its built-in RS232 port connects printers, balances, computers, and other peripherals, and it stores 200 data sets with real-time query. A further upgrade of the Victor smart-series moisture analyzer, the C9 delivers a higher level of automation and precision. It complies with multiple national and international moisture standards as well as pharmacopoeia requirements and is widely used in chemicals, petroleum, pharmaceuticals, power, food, batteries, plastics, research, and testing.
When measuring moisture with a Karl Fischer analyzer, most samples can be added directly to the generator cell/titration cell for simple, accurate testing. Some samples, however, cannot be added directly because their moisture is not released naturally or they undergo side reactions with the Karl Fischer reagent — for example powders, granules, pastes, and oxidizing inorganic salts.
For samples that cannot be added directly to the cell, pairing the WKT-V2 Karl Fischer oven for gas-phase extraction is the perfect solution. The sample is placed in a vial and moved onto the oven, heated to a specific temperature (up to 300˚C), and the moisture is extracted and carried into the cell by dry air or nitrogen, then measured perfectly.
On arrival, the VicoMeter engineer first checked the instrument's accessory list with the customer, then installed the instrument at a point with a nitrogen connection. Because the customer's fittings were routed from a common line, the supplied pressure regulator could not be used and the customer's own regulator was used instead. After installation, the engineer ran tests: since the customer's samples contained acidic substances and did not fully dissolve in organic solvents, they could not be tested directly with a Karl Fischer analyzer, nor with a halogen moisture analyzer (due to volatility), so the Karl Fischer oven plus Karl Fischer moisture analyzer combination was used. Our results matched the customer's third-party tests almost exactly, and the customer was very satisfied.
